Steam from bathrooms and kitchens is the most common trigger in Queensland homes, followed by insects nesting inside the alarm chamber and dust build-up after renovations. An alarm that chirps once every minute is usually signalling a flat backup battery or the end of its 10-year service life rather than a fault. Queensland law requires rental smoke alarms to be tested and cleaned within 30 days before the start or renewal of every tenancy, under the Fire and Emergency Services Act 1990. During a tenancy, alarms must also be tested and cleaned at least once every 12 months, flat batteries replaced, and every alarm replaced before it passes 10 years from its manufacture date. Testing means pressing the test button and confirming the alarm actually sounds; a visual check isn't enough. Interconnected photoelectric alarms compliant with Australian Standard 3786:2014, already mandatory for rentals and properties being sold, and required in every Queensland dwelling from 1 January 2027. Photoelectric alarms detect the large smoke particles of slow, smouldering fires far earlier than the older ionisation type, and interconnection means every alarm in the home sounds together, so an alarm triggered in a distant bedroom still wakes you. Alarms must be installed in every bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms, and on every storey, powered either by 240V wiring or a non-removable 10-year lithium battery. We only install quality parts from established brands, never cheap imports, and every installation includes a certificate of compliance.

From $125 per alarm for our WATCH brand or $165 per alarm for our premium RED brand, both interconnected photoelectric alarms compliant with AS 3786:2014, and both covered by the manufacturer's warranty. Every upgrade includes a certificate of compliance, a smoke alarm controller, so the price you see is the complete job. A typical three-bedroom home needs four to five alarms, so a full 2027-standard upgrade usually lands between $500 and $825 depending on the brand you choose.

Yes, our licensed electricians and technicians replace and install power points, switches, light fittings, ceiling fans, and repair stoves, ovens and cooktops, often in the same visit as your compliance service. Work is charged from $130/hour plus parts, and combining electrical jobs with a compliance visit is the cheapest way to get them done. We carry quality fittings on the truck and happily install owner-supplied ones. We work business hours only (Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:30pm), don't offer 24-hour emergency callouts, and aren't equipped for dishwashers, air-conditioners or appliance repair, but for everything else electrical around a home or rental, one call covers it.
